General Tab (Pro, Std, Lite)

This is where you can change general and miscellaneous options that affect the validator engine.

File Options

Default configuration file - Each time you run HTML Validator, it attempts to automatically load a configuration file. The configuration file contains information about the tags, tag attributes, and attribute values that can be used as well as rules about how they can be used. It also contains compatibility, deprecation, style, and other helpful information. The default configuration file should be specified here with a full pathname such as "C:\Program Files\HTMLValidator45\htmlval45.cfg". The file should end in a ".cfg" extension and is created by choosing Save Config or Save Config As in the Configuration Editor. If this is your first time running HTML Validator you should make sure that this is set to the configuration file included with HTML Validator (it should be set to this automatically).

Enable sounds - Check this box to enable sounds such as a sound at the end of a validation indicating whether there were any errors or warnings. This option is enabled by default. (New v6.00)
Play when validation generates errors or warnings - Select the sound to play after a validation that generates error or warning messages. Sound must be enabled for this option to have any effect. (New v6.00)
Play when validation generates no errors or warnings - Select the sound to play after a validation that generates no error or warning messages. Sound must be enabled for this option to have any effect. (New v6.00)

Autosave configuration instead of asking - Check this box if you always want to save any changes to the configuration without HTML Validator asking you if you want to do so. Otherwise you are asked to save the configuration if it has changed and you attempt to exit the program or load a new configuration. This option is not enabled by default.
Never show progress bar - Check this box to disable the showing of the progress bar which is normally displayed during validations. The progress bar shows the validation progress of an individual document and is especially useful when validating large documents and/or validating documents with a slow computer. This option is not enabled by default. (New v4.50)
Show progress bar now - Check this box to show the progress bar so that you can reposition it to where you like it. This option is not saved. This option is not enabled by default. (New v4.50)
